What will open government look like in 2025?

Omidyar Network is hosting Open Up, a convening of 200 global leaders from across business, government, and civil society to consider: “What do we want open government to look like in 2025?”. The event, held on November 15 in London, will allow the community to reflect on lessons learned from the early years of open government and to discuss what the future might hold for open, accountable, and participatory government.

The day's agenda includes sessions on automated decision-making in government, the opportunities and risks offered by unique ID systems, a look into a social platform for citizen tracking of Nigerian public projects, and ways in which the blockchain can be used for public interest in Brazil.

Ahead of the event, we've asked a few of our speakers to share their perspectives and have published them to Medium. Among the bloggers in the series are Julia Angwin of ProPublica on Accountable Algorithms, Ronaldo Lemos of Instituto de Tecnologia & Sociedade do Rio on using blockchain for public interest, and Nanjira Sambuli of Web Foundation on tackling the political dimensions of open government.
