Based in Nairobi, Ory invests in for-profit and non-profit organisations in Africa that foster civic participation and increase transparency and accountability in government.
Ory was previously Google’s Policy Manager for sub-Saharan Africa, responsible for managing government relations and driving the implementation of policies that increased internet access and supported the growth of local online content. Prior to that, she was a founding member of Ushahidi, a crowdsourcing platform that visualises citizen-reported information to increase accountability, and co-founder of Mzalendo, a website that tracks the performance of Kenyan Members of Parliament.
Ory was named on the 2014 TIME 100 List of the World's Most Influential People. She is an advisory board member to several organisations including the Harvard Center for African Studies and Global Witness. She was recently appointed to the Kofi Annan Foundation Commission on Elections and Democracy in the Digital Age.
