Luminate announced today that Juana Kweitel has joined the foundation as Vice President, Global Programmes and will lead the team working on transregional initiatives to enable people to fully participate in civic and political life, to safely challenge power, and to access accurate, trustworthy information.
“We are delighted to welcome Juana to Luminate,” said Luminate CEO Stephen King. “She has an extensive track record dedicated to human rights, and her strong background in campaigning, programme design, and institutional strengthening makes her the ideal person to lead this work. We are confident she will make a significant impact in helping to achieve our mission of ensuring that everyone – especially those who are underrepresented – has the information, rights, and power to influence the decisions that affect their lives.”
Juana has held a number of positions in the social impact sector, most recently serving as Executive Director of Conectas in Brazil, one of the leading organisations dedicated to the defense of human rights and democracy. Before joining Conectas, she worked in Argentina as institutional coordinator of Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS) and as coordinator of their Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Program. She has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Brazil Human Rights Fund, on the Advisory Board of Open Global Rights, and she is the Chair of the Global Witness Board.

Juana also joins Luminate’s Leadership Team which is led by CEO Stephen King and consists of Felipe Estefan (Vice President, Latin America), Shaila Gupta (Vice President, Finance & Operations), Melanie Hui (Vice President, Asia), Abdul Noormohamed (Vice President, Africa), and Martin Tisné (Vice President, Luminate Strategic Initiatives).
