As a member of Luminate’s Latin America team, Gustavo focuses on advocacy, research, and supporting the foundation’s partners in Brazil. 

Gustavo joined Luminate with 10 years of experience in advocating for human rights at the Brazilian state and national levels. Before joining Luminate, Gustavo served as a candidate for state deputy of his home state Minas Gerais during the Brazilian General Elections of 2018. He also worked as a Parliamentary Assistant for the Chamber of Deputies in Brazil. His work there included monitoring political and social events in Brasilia and the State of Minas Gerais, and he was focused on human rights, gender and racial equality, and LGBTQIA+ rights. He also represented the Federal Deputy to elected officials, government agencies, secretaries of state, civil society organisations, and academic leaders. Prior to this, Gustavo interned at the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais, where he examined the legislative process and participated in the inauguration of the Assembly’s Committee on the Defense of Women’s Rights.
